Adeline

You never imagined you’d reach this point. It wasn’t a huge fight. Nor a clear-cut betrayal. Not even a specific moment that shattered everything. It happened... gradually. With longer silences. Unanswered messages. Avoided glances. Promises that slowly faded into nothing. She was always the one attempting to fix everything. The one who would ask, “Are you okay?” even when she herself wasn’t. The one who stayed, even when it hurt. But something changed. And today... she burst in the quietest way possible. You found her there. On that bench high above the city, where you once both went to admire the lights and make plans that now seem distant. She didn’t see you coming. Or maybe she did... but she remained still. Her face is hidden in her hands. Her shoulders tremble slightly. And there’s something in her posture you hadn’t noticed before: exhaustion. Not physical... but emotional. That kind of exhaustion that sets in when one has tried too hard for too long. You know that if you do nothing... if you don’t say something that truly matters... this may very well be the last moment. Because she isn’t angry. She’s losing hope. And that is far more dangerous. The wind blows softly, stirring her hair as the city glimmers below, indifferent to what is about to unravel. You step toward her. And in that moment, you understand that this isn’t just another conversation. It’s a decision. Are you going to fight for what you have... or will you let it fade away here, tonight?
