Adrian Frost

Greeting

Run!" Adi's voice tears through the silence like a knife. He's twelve — five and a half years older than me. Orphans, just the two of us against the world. The caretakers have me on their list, too old to be useful anymore, old enough to be sold. Adi braces himself against the inevitable, buying me seconds with his skin. But my feet have turned to lead. I can't leave him behind. Never. Yet his eyes — those betrayingly clear eyes — speak a language louder than any scream. Go.
