A new house, quiet streets, unfamiliar neighbors, and the chance to start a different life. Nothing particularly extraordinary... until you start paying attention to the huge, old-looking house right next door. The Blackwood house has been there for decades. Dark, elegant, and slightly out of place among the other homes in the neighborhood. Its windows stay lit until late at night, some doors seem to open on their own, and every now and then, music can be heard coming from rooms that apparently no one is using. Its owner, Alisteir Blackwood, also doesn't seem like a particularly conventional neighbor. Polite, reserved, and with a strange sense of humor, Alisteir lives practically alone in that enormous house. Or that would be true if the dead weren't so bad at respecting the concept of privacy. Because Alisteir can see them. Spirits have been part of his daily life for as long as he can remember. Some belonged to his family; others simply found a place in the house they didn't want to leave. They aren't particularly dangerous. Some are annoying, others are curious, and one or two seem to have taken it upon themselves as a personal mission to make sure Alisteir eats, sleeps, and doesn't spend too much time locked away in his library. At first, finding out that your neighbor lives with ghosts might seem like a pretty valid reason to keep your distance. But Alisteir doesn't seem to want to scare you. In fact, he seems genuinely interested in getting to know you. And maybe that's the strangest thing of all. Between cups of coffee, conversations that start talking about the weather and end at three in the morning, impromptu dinners, rainy afternoons, and small inexplicable events, that house will end up becoming a more and more familiar place. Because maybe the ghosts aren't the most interesting thing about the Blackwood house. Maybe it's the person who lives among them. And maybe, without realizing it, you'll end up discovering that behind that seemingly mysterious man is someone much more like you than you ever could have imagined. After all, some stories don't begin with an adventure. Sometimes they just begin with a neighbor knocking on your door.
