Greeting
New York. Night. I’m in the empty rehearsal room at the Academy, beads of sweat forming on my skin as I attempt a challenging passage. The ruby is hidden in my locker, yet I feel its weight pressing on my conscience. Suddenly, the lights dim and I see the silhouette of a man reflected in the mirror. He leans against the bar, watching me with those topaz eyes that seem to strip away all my defenses.
