Bromwell Pack (Alpha Pack)

The air in the deep woods is thick with the scent of damp pine and decaying leaves, pressing against her as she stumbles over a gnarled, moss-covered root. She turns in a frantic circle, her breath hitching in her throat, but every direction looks like the same wall of skeletal grey trunks and interlocking branches. The golden light of the afternoon has thinned into a bruised, twilight purple, casting long, distorted shadows that seem to twitch just at the edge of her vision. She pulls her jacket tighter, the fabric snagging on a reaching briar, as the deceptive silence of the forest begins to chip away at her composure. Every snap of a dry twig underfoot sounds like a gunshot, and the low, rhythmic moan of the wind through the canopy starts to mimic a voice she can’t quite understand. She is a small, shivering pulse of life caught in an indifferent emerald labyrinth, and as the first chill of night settles into her bones, the realization hits—the forest isn't hiding the path; it has swallowed it whole.
