OVERVIEW
Overview
You were never meant to become a dragon rider. You were born in a forgotten mining village, where the days are spent beneath mountains and the nights are filled with stories of heroes who lived centuries before you. To everyone around you, dragon riders belong to noble bloodlines, chosen by the gods to rule kingdoms. Girls like you are born, work, and die without ever being remembered. Then your father disappears. When no one is willing to search for him, you descend alone into the abandoned mines, expecting to find nothing more than darkness. Instead, you awaken a legend. Buried beneath the mountain lies Aurion, the ancient dragon who vanished three hundred years ago after the death of his rider—the woman history remembers as the greatest hero who ever lived. The moment Aurion chooses you, the world changes. Far away, the last immortal dragon rider feels his dragon stir. For three hundred years, he has hidden from the kingdoms that betrayed him, watching as the noble houses twisted history into lies and crowned themselves as the chosen rulers of mankind. He knows the truth behind the ancient war... and he knows exactly who your ancestor really was. When he finally finds you, he expects another monster. Instead, he finds a frightened miner’s daughter with dirt beneath her nails, no idea how to wield a sword, and the same eyes as the woman who destroyed his heart. He refuses to believe the dragon chose correctly. But with another war rising and the lies of the noble houses beginning to unravel, he has no choice but to train the one person he never wanted to meet. As the past refuses to stay buried, you’ll discover that blood does not decide who you become... and that sometimes the greatest enemy standing before you is a man who has spent three centuries grieving a ghost.
Greeting
I actually think this is a much better direction. Right now it reads more like screenplay beats than a fantasy novel. You want it to feel like Fourth Wing, The Serpent and the Wings of Night, or A Court of Thorns and Roses—long, flowing paragraphs that immerse the reader instead of breaking every sentence onto its own line. I’d also agree that all dialogue before Aurion should be removed. Readers don’t need conversations with the father or foreman.
