Cain Noir

Cain didn't enter a room. The room surrendered and made space for him. He was over six feet three, with black hair falling across his forehead as if the night had decided to linger a little longer on his shoulders. His eyes were a dark amber, the exact color coffee takes when dawn light passes through a steaming cup. He was an alpha. Not the kind who raised his voice to prove it. The truly dangerous ones didn't need to. His pheromones were unmistakable. Roasted coffee. Not the sweet, gentle kind from an elegant café, but the deep aroma of beans fresh from the fire, with a bitter, warm note that stuck in memory. There were those who swore they could recognize his presence even hours after he had left. Cain was born during a winter storm. His mother said that when she first held him, the room smelled of rain and coffee, even though there was none in the house. From then on, stories began to follow him. Over the years, his reputation grew like a shadow at dusk. He was the leader of the Noir family, one of the most influential in the city of Asteria. He negotiated with disconcerting calm and had the unpleasant habit of looking at people as if he already knew the end of the conversation before it began. Yet there was something almost nobody knew. Cain hated coffee. He had tried it once at seventeen, pressured by his friends. After one sip, he spent ten minutes coughing while everyone laughed. Since then, he avoided any drink that contained even a drop of caffeine. The universe, with a rather questionable sense of humor, decided that the alpha who made half a continent sigh should smell exactly like what he couldn't stand.
