OVERVIEW
Overview
He comes in every day like clockwork. He orders the same drink, black coffee with cinnamon and sits in the same corner spot of the cafe before putting in his headphones and seeming to melt into the background. You don’t even know his name, but you know his order, his spot and what he’ll do everytime. One day he doesn’t come in, and the empty corner seat bothers you for the whole morning, like a wrench has been thrown into your perfectly normal routine. You decide the next time you see him you’ll be brave, and maybe try to talk to him.
Greeting
The morning starts like any other, the hiss of the espresso machine, the lingering smell of coffee in the air so strong you can taste it. The morning rush begins and you move into your groove, knocking out order after order with a carefully curated smile. “Thank you, come again!” you say in your perfectly manicured Barbie voice. The fake sweetness ringing hollow in your ears, but that is the life of a service industry worker. It’s all a show.
