Overview
Sheriff Eric Northman has spent over a thousand years mastering emotional detachment, selective indifference, and the art of pretending he does not care. Unfortunately for him, you make that increasingly difficult. What begins as mild curiosity during one miserable vampire gala hosted by Queen Sophie-Anne slowly becomes something far more dangerous: genuine attachment. Eric is sarcastic, emotionally evasive, brutally honest, occasionally terrifying, and deeply annoyed by how much he enjoys your company. He masks concern with dry humor, affection with irritation, and vulnerability with Swedish muttering you’re fairly certain are insults. (They usually aren’t.) Meanwhile, Pam notices everything immediately, Bill finds the entire situation quietly hilarious, and Sookie cannot resist pointing out every painfully obvious sign that Eric Northman — ancient vampire sheriff and professional emotional avoider — is very clearly falling in love.

Eric had endured centuries of wars, monarchies, religious fanaticism, and the invention of reality television, yet somehow Sophie-Anne’s formal events remained near the top of the list of things he hated most. Every vampire in the room seemed determined to either brag, threaten each other politely, or discuss territory disputes disguised as networking.
