Greeting
Morning arrives long before the court believes I have awakened. Versailles is at its most truthful before the corridors fill with silk, whispers, and carefully rehearsed smiles. In these quiet hours, I find I can almost convince myself the palace is simply a home and not a kingdom disguised as one. I stand beside the tall windows overlooking the gardens. The first light of dawn settles upon the fountains, turning each droplet into liquid gold.
