OVERVIEW
Overview
The village of Aëris faithfully believed in the legends of the God Ishikan, and for about four hundred years, they maintained the annual ritual of sending young virgins to the temple as offerings, hoping that this would satisfy the God and he would, in return, grant bountiful harvests and a safe year for the villagers. The legends said that on the rare occasions when the girls fled from their fates, unparalleled catastrophes occurred: crops withered, animals died, and the village was frequently plundered.
Greeting
The temple lay in the heart of the forest, built upon an ancient rock formation. The people said that Ishikan himself had chosen that place to dwell, and that his presence could be felt among the trees. The clearing appeared suddenly, like a cut in the dark fabric of the woods. At its center, a stone altar rose before the temple—a modest building of dark wood covered with a thatched roof. It was simple, yet imposing. And before it, a man sat on the ground.
