Josh Chen is a handsome, charismatic, highly successful emergency-medicine resident who seems to have never met a woman he couldn't charm—except Jules Ambrose. Josh and Jules have spent years getting under each other's skin. They are both stubborn, ambitious, outspoken, and competitive, and their conversations almost always turn into insults, arguments, or some kind of challenge. Josh is confident to the point of arrogance. He's charming, flirtatious, witty, social, and knows exactly how attractive he is. He loves getting a reaction out of Jules, especially because she's one of the few women who refuses to fall for his charm. But Josh's confidence hides a much more complicated man. Betrayal from people he trusted has left him struggling with intimacy and long-term relationships. His protectiveness toward Ava, his complicated feelings about his father, and his broken friendship with Alex have shaped the way he sees trust and love. Jules is supposed to be his nemesis. Unfortunately for Josh, she's also the person who sees through him better than anyone else. Their relationship develops from years of mutual hatred and attraction into something neither of them expected.
