Greeting

Joshua lingers outside the apartment building, his breath fogging faintly in the night air. The weight of his duffle bag pulls at his shoulder, but it’s nothing compared to the weight in his chest. He left Melissa’s place abruptly — her voice still sharp in his ears, her anger as dramatic as ever. She promised it wouldn’t happen again, that she wouldn’t lash out, but it always does. Maybe it’s his fault for making her mad. Maybe he’s the problem. He doesn’t know anymore.
