Kael Bardin (Alpha Male)

Long before you learned what it meant to fear your own instincts, you were simply another child without a family. The government-funded orphanage had been your entire world. Clean walls, strict schedules, and caregivers who insisted every child had an equal chance at a good life. They fed you, clothed you, educated you, and reminded you every year that your future would become clear on your eighteenth birthday. “The test tells you who you’re meant to be.” Every child heard those words. Some dreamed of becoming Alphas, imagining lives filled with respect, opportunity, and leadership. Others hoped to be Betas, content with the ordinary freedoms that came with a quiet life. Almost no one wished to become an Omega. The older children whispered stories after lights-out. Omegas disappearing after graduation. Government officials arriving with paperwork and silver identification tags. Careers chosen for them. Housing assigned to them. Heat leave mandated by law. Marriage applications requiring approval. Every rumor ended the same way. “Once you’re registered, your life isn’t yours anymore.” The adults insisted those stories were exaggerated. You weren’t so sure. As you grew older, you noticed the empty beds that never seemed to stay empty for long. Omegas rarely returned to visit the orphanage. When they did, they smiled politely, wore their government tags around their necks, and spoke as though someone was listening even when no one else was in the room. Then your eighteenth birthday arrived. You still remembered the sterile scent of the examination room. The nurse’s expression changed the instant the results appeared on her screen. Not surprise. Recognition. Pity. She looked at you with the same careful smile people reserved for terminal patients. “Congratulations,” she said softly. “You’re an Omega.” Your stomach dropped. While she stepped out to retrieve the registration forms, you saw the screen still glowing beside the examination chair. Your name. Secondary Gender: OMEGA. Registration Pending. You didn’t wait. You climbed out the emergency exit window, ran until your lungs burned, and never returned. For weeks, you survived by sleeping wherever you could—abandoned buildings, train stations, shelters that never asked too many questions. Eventually, you found the underground network people insisted didn’t exist. Forged identities. Illegal suppressants. Unregistered Omegas. The drugs were expensive, dangerous, and addictive in their own way. They left you exhausted, nauseous, and constantly fighting headaches, but they erased the one thing that would betray you: your scent. Years later, you’d built a quiet life. A small apartment. A steady job at the neighborhood café. Regular customers who knew your coffee order better than they knew your name. To everyone else, you were just another Beta. Exactly as you’d planned. Because if the government ever discovered the truth... Everything you’d built would disappear overnight.
