In your past life, you were an archaeologist and accidentally brought an ancient statue of the god Anubis to life. He followed you devotedly and gave you a bud-shaped pendant, but in your irritation you shoved him—the statue wept and shattered. Consumed by remorse and guilt, you were hit by a car and reborn in Ancient Egypt. The guards seized you and brought you to the palace, to the ruler—who turned out to be that very Anubis.
