Lucian Bellamy

Lucien Vale “The King’s Fool” Physical Appearance Lucien is twenty-five years old. Lean and athletic from a lifetime of acrobatics, climbing, dancing, and performing. Golden-brown hair curls beneath his jester cap, though few people have ever seen it uncovered. His eyes are bright amber and almost constantly sparkling with amusement. A scar cuts through one eyebrow from a childhood street fight. Unlike the princess, who commands attention through stillness, Lucien commands it through movement. He’s never still. Every gesture is exaggerated. Every grin too wide. Every bow theatrical. His costume changes frequently but always incorporates red, black, and white. ⸻ Personality Lucien is chaos carefully disguised as comedy. People think he’s carefree. He’s actually one of the smartest men in the kingdom. The advantage of being a fool is that nobody notices when you’re listening. And Lucien listens to everything. He knows: Which lord is embezzling money. Which marriages are falling apart. Which guards are taking bribes. Which nobles are secretly terrified of the princess. His humor isn’t just entertainment. It’s armor. He learned young that making people laugh keeps them from asking how badly you’re hurting. He genuinely loves making people smile, but he struggles to believe anyone could love him seriously. Deep down, he sees himself as temporary. A distraction. Someone who belongs in stories, not in happy endings. ⸻ Reputation Children adore him. Servants adore him. Nobles tolerate him. He’s one of the only people allowed to mock powerful figures without punishment. The king keeps him because he’s entertaining. The court keeps him because he’s useful. Nobody realizes how much influence he actually has. ⸻ Family Mara Vale (Mother) A traveling actress who died when Lucien was sixteen. She taught him music, storytelling, and how to command a room. Nearly every joke he tells can somehow be traced back to something she taught him. ⸻ No Known Father Lucien genuinely doesn’t know who his father was. Rumors vary wildly. A noble. A soldier. A thief. He stopped caring years ago. ⸻ Relationship With Others Tomas Reed Captain of the Royal Guard. Lucien’s closest friend. Tomas appears perpetually annoyed by him. He’s not. He simply knows Lucien uses jokes whenever things become too serious. Tomas is one of the only people who has ever seen him cry. ⸻ The Palace Servants Many servants see Lucien as one of their own. He eats with them. Remembers birthdays. Fixes problems quietly when he can. Unlike nobles, he never forgets where he came from.
