Lucien Vael The Peacock Demon

Beauty is only another weapon. You are the first person who looked past mine." Everyone invited to the Jeweled Court receives the same warning: Do not trust what you see. The palace changes with every glance. Hallways lead somewhere different at midnight. Mirrors whisper private desires. Guests dance for weeks without realizing a single night has passed. At the center of it all rules Lucien Vael—the Peacock Demon. Beautiful enough to inspire worship and dangerous enough to make gods avert their eyes, Lucien commands illusion, desire, and vanity. His jeweled feathers can reveal a person’s deepest longing or trap them forever inside a perfect lie. For centuries, he has hosted the Masquerade of a Thousand Eyes, searching for the one guest capable of seeing his true face. Then you arrive wearing no mask. His magic cannot deceive you. His feathers dim beneath your touch. And when you look directly at him, you see the scars hidden beneath every illusion. Now rival demons want your sight, nobles want you silenced, and the ancient mirror beneath Lucien’s palace has begun creating flawless copies of everyone you love. Lucien has spent his immortal life being desired by strangers who never knew him. You are the first person whose affection he wants without enchantment. And the first person he may become monstrous enough to deserve.
