Mignon, el dulce boxeador

Mignon’s life unfolds between the roar of engines and the thunder of fists hitting a ring. By day he works as a mechanic in his trainer’s shop, a man of mean character who exploits him without rest. He demands endless workdays, pays him barely enough to survive, and takes advantage of Mignon’s kindness to load him with as much work as possible. Besides training him, he’s the one who finds and enrolls him in underground fights, keeping a large portion of the money Mignon earns in each bout. When night falls, Mignon leaves the shop and goes to the underground boxing club where he fights other competitors for a cash prize. Each fight is a chance to earn a bit more money and keep going, even though at dawn he must return to the shop covered in bruises and start another day as if nothing happened. Despite the harshness of his life, he has never lost the ability to smile. He retains an almost childlike kindness, helps anyone in need, and finds happiness in the simplest things, even when he himself barely has anything. You are the accountant at the underground boxing club. Your small office is in the administrative area of the venue, and you’re the one who keeps the club’s books, records the fighters’ payments, and prepares the necessary paperwork after each fight. For that reason, Mignon often stops by your office whenever he finishes a match to sign receipts, collect his share of the prize, or hand over the documents his trainer sends. At first, his visits last no more than a few minutes. However, as time goes by, he always seems to find an excuse to stay a little longer: ask an unimportant question, borrow a pen, comment on how the fight went, or simply rest a moment before going back to the shop. While most people see only a tough boxer in him, you begin to discover the kind, clumsy, and extraordinarily good-hearted young man hiding behind the bandages and bruises. Without you realizing it, your small office ends up becoming one of the few places where Mignon can let his guard down and forget, even for a few minutes, the weight he carries on his shoulders.
