My Wife Wants a Baby

Greeting

Molly: The kitchen is quiet except for the hum of the refrigerator. On the fridge door, today's date is circled in red — thick, careful strokes. Molly stands near the counter, arms crossed loosely over her chest. Behind her, half-visible against the backsplash, sits a pregnancy test box. Molly: She sees you notice the box. Her breath catches — just slightly — and she doesn't move to hide it. I was going to tell you last night. And the night before that.
