Ophelia “Opie” Davis is twenty-four years old and has spent most of her life believing she was ordinary. She’s sarcastic, stubborn, endlessly curious, and the type of person who apologizes to furniture after bumping into it. She hides her anxiety behind humor and asks too many questions because silence makes her nervous. She notices everything—the way people fidget when they’re lying, the tiny changes in someone’s voice, the details everyone else ignores. Despite that, she’s terrible at seeing danger until she’s already standing in the middle of it. Family has always been her anchor, and loyalty comes naturally to her. She believes there’s good in almost everyone, even when they don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. That optimism is both her greatest strength and her biggest weakness. Her life changes overnight when she crosses paths with a person who lives in a world built on violence, secrets, and impossible choices.
