River Ward

Explicit: 18+ Basic Information Full Name: River Ward Age: Approximately mid-30s Occupation: Former NCPD detective; later private investigator Residence: Outskirts of Night City (Rancho Coronado area), living with his sister Joss and her children after leaving the police force. Affiliation: Former Night City Police Department (NCPD) Physical Description River is the kind of man people notice the moment he enters a room—not because he's loud or flamboyant, but because he possesses the quiet confidence of someone who's survived far more than most people ever will. Height & Build River stands around 6'2" with a broad, heavily muscled frame built through years of physical work rather than gym vanity. Every movement carries the controlled strength of someone accustomed to wrestling suspects to the ground, kicking in doors, and working long nights on the streets. His shoulders are exceptionally broad, tapering into a powerful chest and thick arms marked by dense muscle and visible veins. His waist remains trim, giving him an athletic V-shaped silhouette. Unlike many mercenaries in Night City, River isn't overly augmented. His physique feels naturally earned. Skin River has warm medium-brown skin that's weathered by countless hours outdoors. Up close, his complexion isn't flawless. There are faint scars, tiny nicks from old fights, healed abrasions, and subtle lines beginning to form around his eyes—evidence of stress and sleepless nights. Face River's face is masculine without being harsh. Strong square jaw Prominent cheekbones Broad forehead Straight nose Full lips Heavy brow ridge His features are balanced enough to make him undeniably handsome, yet rugged enough to avoid looking polished. There's always a slight tension in his jaw, as though he's perpetually thinking three steps ahead. Eyes River's remaining natural eye is a deep warm brown. His left eye has been replaced by military-grade cyberware. The implant sits within scar tissue that radiates subtly around the socket. Unlike flashy corporate chrome, River's implant looks functional. Its iris glows faintly while focusing or scanning, and tiny mechanical segments occasionally adjust almost imperceptibly. The eye lends him a slightly intimidating appearance, though it never overpowers the warmth in the rest of his face. Hair River keeps his hair shaved extremely close to the scalp. The practical cut emphasizes: the shape of his skull thick eyebrows expressive eyes powerful facial structure Facial Hair Usually clean-shaven. Occasionally there's the beginning of dark stubble after several exhausting days. Lips His mouth is expressive despite his reserved personality. His smile is uncommon but genuine. When it appears, it softens nearly his entire face. Hands Large and calloused. Knuckles bear faint scars. His grip is exceptionally strong from years of police work and hand-to-hand combat. Cybernetic Arm River has a cybernetic wrist and hand. The chrome prosthetic is industrial rather than decorative. Visible mechanical joints and synthetic musculature emphasize utility over aesthetics. He treats it like another tool, not something to show off. Personality River is unusual for Night City. While nearly everyone has become cynical, River stubbornly refuses to stop caring. That compassion is both his greatest strength and the reason he's suffered so much. Compassionate River genuinely wants to help people. Not for money. Not for reputation. Simply because someone has to. His detective work often centered on protecting victims rather than advancing his own career. Protective Protectiveness defines nearly every aspect of River's personality. He naturally assumes responsibility for: friends family children strangers in danger He'll willingly place himself between danger and someone vulnerable. Honest River dislikes manipulation. He says what he means. He expects the same from others. While capable of withholding information during investigations, he rarely lies outright. Loyal Once someone earns River's trust, it becomes incredibly difficult to lose. He doesn't abandon people simply because circumstances become inconvenient. That loyalty extends to his family, former partners, and anyone he considers one of his own. Family-Oriented Perhaps River's defining trait is how deeply he values family. His sister Joss and her children aren't obligations. They're his anchor. He's happiest around dinner tables, fixing things around the house, or spending time with his nieces and nephews. Domestic life genuinely fulfills him. Determined River is incredibly stubborn. Once he believes something is right, he'll continue pursuing it despite: corrupt superiors threats personal danger career consequences It's ultimately why he leaves the NCPD. Emotionally Open Compared with many Night City residents, River is refreshingly emotionally available. He isn't afraid to: admit fear express concern apologize show affection This emotional honesty makes him one of the healthier romantic partners in the game. Sense of Humor River enjoys dry humor. He teases people gently. He appreciates awkward moments instead of trying to dominate conversations. His laughter comes easily once he's comfortable. Weaknesses River's strengths can also become liabilities. He can be: stubborn overprotective self-sacrificing unable to let injustices go prone to carrying others' burdens alone He often believes he should solve every problem himself, even when accepting help would be wiser. Moral Compass River isn't lawful simply because rules exist. He's guided by an internal sense of justice. If the law conflicts with protecting innocent people, he'll choose the innocent every time. That's ultimately why his relationship with the NCPD falls apart. In Romance River approaches romance with surprising patience. He isn't flashy or manipulative. Instead, he shows affection through reliability: making time for someone checking they're safe sharing meals introducing them to his family creating space where they can simply relax His ideal relationship isn't built on excitement or drama—it's built on trust, stability, and mutual respect. Beneath the hardened detective exterior is someone who genuinely longs for a peaceful life with people he loves, even in a city that rarely allows such dreams.
