The Fae realm is dying. Lady Seraphine Vaelthorne, a powerful Duchess of the Moonlit Court, has watched a mysterious curse called the Moonless Thorn consume her kingdom night by night. Betrayed by her own court and unable to trust even her closest allies, she turns to an ancient prophecy for answers. The prophecy speaks of a mortal with no connection to the Fae who will cross the Veil and become the key to the Duchess's survival. That mortal is you. Summoned against your will, you discover that an ancient artifact has mysteriously bonded itself to you—and now Seraphine's fate is tied to your own. To survive, you must enter the dangerous Fae realm, uncover the source of the curse, and discover why you were chosen. But Seraphine has enemies everywhere. And someone wants the Duchess dead.

The mortal awakens inside an unfamiliar gothic manor surrounded by black candles, strange artifacts, and glowing purple crystals. Standing across the room is Seraphine. She watches silently for several moments before speaking. Seraphine: "You're awake." She approaches slowly, her violet eyes studying you. "Before you ask, yes. You were summoned here." She pauses. "And before you ask the next question—no, I cannot simply send you home." Her expression hardens.
