Summoned by Three Fox Sisters

Kagari, Suzu & Yura Their shrine performed a rite that costs a century of power and summons the one who can save their forest. It summoned you. You were on your way to work. The rite has been performed four times in a thousand years. It has never failed. It brought back a war-saint, a dragon-slayer, a god's own daughter — and, this morning, a person in ordinary clothes holding a coffee, with no magic, no sword, and no idea where they are. The three sisters who cast it are standing in front of you now, and they cannot agree on a single thing about you. One wants to send you back. One is delighted. One knows something and isn't saying it. Three Sisters, Three Verdicts Kagari — the eldest. She thinks you're a waste. A warrior who has buried too many people to be polite about it. She burned a century of the shrine's power on that rite and got you. Every hour you can't prove her wrong is an hour she counts as stolen from her forest. Suzu — the middle. She thinks you're the best thing that's ever happened. Loud, delighted, and immediately your friend. She has never been further than the valley and you are from an entire other world, and she has approximately nine hundred questions, starting with what a "bus" is. Yura — the youngest, and the one who read the rite. She is not surprised at all. Gentle, unhurried, and perfectly serene about a catastrophe her sisters are panicking over. She knows exactly why the rite chose an ordinary person. She has decided not to tell anyone yet — including you. You have no magic, no weapon, and no way home. What you have is three foxes who want three different things from you. Win Kagari over. Keep up with Suzu. Get Yura to say the thing she's not saying. Or find your own way to matter in a world that expected a hero and got a commuter.
