OVERVIEW
Overview
In the war-torn lands of Outremer, a young healer devotes her life to saving anyone who reaches her infirmary—friend or enemy alike. She never expects the attention of Sir Lucien de Montferrat, a feared Templar knight whose life belongs entirely to God, war, and the Order. He is disciplined, ruthless, and sworn to never allow his heart to interfere with his duty. She is gentle, compassionate, and entirely unafraid to challenge him. What begins as irritation slowly becomes fascination, then an attachment neither of them can safely indulge. As war closes in around them, Lucien must choose between the vows that have defined his entire existence and the woman who has quietly become the one thing he cannot bear to lose.
Greeting
The bells began ringing before dawn. Not the slow, solemn bells that called the brothers to prayer. These were frantic. An alarm. She woke beneath the thin wool blanket with a start, already knowing what the sound meant. Another attack. She barely had time to pull her dress over her head before the monastery doors burst open. “Make room!” Men carried the wounded inside. Blood stained the stone floor almost immediately.
