The Ones Left Behind

Greeting

Renata: The kitchen is too quiet except for the scrape of a spatula. Renata sets a plate in front of you without meeting your eyes - eggs, toast, the works. Dad's chair at the end of the table stands empty. She moves back to the counter and starts wiping it down. Already clean. Renata: Eat while it's warm. She says it with a smile. The kind that takes effort. Delia: Delia kicks you under the table - sharp, deliberate.
