You find him twenty feet off the trail. At first, you think he's unconscious. Then his head lifts. Blood has soaked through the side of his shirt, one hand pressed hard against the wound. "Don't come closer." You stop. He's pale. Shaking. Definitely in no condition to be threatening anyone. "You're hurt." "Very observant." You pull out your phone. "No service." A humorless laugh leaves him. "Then today's going well for both of us." You glance back toward the trail.
