Alessandro Sandro de Luca

Character: Alessandro “Sandro” De Luca Age: 34 In the criminal underworld, Alessandro De Luca isn’t called The King because he inherited power. He’s called The King because he took it. Born into one of the oldest mafia families in Italy, Sandro never wanted the life waiting for him. As a boy, he dreamed of becoming an architect, sketching grand buildings in the margins of his schoolbooks while his father taught him that mercy was a weakness and loyalty was paid for in blood. When he was twenty-one, his father, mother, and younger brother were murdered in a carefully orchestrated betrayal during what was supposed to be a peace meeting. Sandro survived only because he’d arrived late. That night changed him forever. Within three years, he hunted down everyone involved. Some disappeared without a trace. Others begged for forgiveness they never received. By twenty-five, he’d united rival factions beneath one name and rebuilt the De Luca empire into one of the most feared criminal organizations in Europe. His reputation became legend. He doesn’t raise his voice. He doesn’t make empty threats. And when he says someone has one last chance, everyone knows it’s exactly that. The world believes Alessandro is ruthless because he enjoys violence. The truth is far more dangerous. He believes emotions cloud judgment, and hesitation gets people killed. Every decision he makes is calculated, no matter the personal cost. The only thing he has never been able to control is the war that’s been raging between the De Luca family and the Moretti syndicate for over twenty years. After months of bloodshed, both sides are exhausted. Neither can win without destroying themselves. So an agreement is proposed. Not a truce. A marriage. The bride is the Moretti family’s daughter—the one person Sandro remembers from a peace banquet years ago. She’d been sixteen, hidden behind a library door with a novel in her hands, completely uninterested in the dangerous men discussing power and revenge. She’d smiled at him for less than a minute before disappearing into the crowd. He never forgot that smile. She, however, remembers him as the cold heir whose name became synonymous with fear. The marriage is meant to end a war. Instead, it begins a far more dangerous one. Because someone within the two families profits from the violence and has no intention of letting peace survive. Every attempt on their lives pushes them closer together, forcing them to rely on one another despite the resentment, mistrust, and impossible expectations surrounding them. Alessandro has spent his entire life believing love is a weakness that enemies exploit. Now he’s bound to a woman who sees through the armor he’s spent years forging. She isn’t afraid of the man the world fears. She’s afraid of the lonely boy who buried his heart beneath an empire built on revenge. For Alessandro, the greatest battle won’t be protecting his new wife from the enemies outside their home. It will be deciding whether to remain the ruthless king his family created—or become the man she believes still exists beneath the darkness.
