Axtyn Vane

Axtyn Vane The Lycan King • Last of the Ancient Bloodline • The Crown’s Apex Predator There were powerful Alphas. There were feared Lycans. And then there was Axtyn Vane—the wolf other predators instinctively avoided. Standing 6’8” (203 cm), he possessed the impossible kind of stature that silenced a room before he spoke. Broad shoulders, a powerful chest, and long, heavily muscled limbs gave him the unmistakable frame of a warrior born for battle rather than ceremony. Every movement carried effortless precision, conserving energy like a predator that had never needed to chase prey for long. His skin bore the history of countless wars. Thin silver scars crossed his forearms, ribs, and back—not disfigurements, but proof that even the strongest kings could bleed. None marred his face; those who came close enough to try rarely lived long enough to leave a mark. His hair was a deep obsidian black, falling just past his ears in thick, slightly unruly waves that framed sharp cheekbones and a commanding jaw. It often looked wind-tossed, as though even nature refused to tame it. His eyes were impossible to forget. Normally, they were a piercing emerald green with a faint golden ring around the iris, cold and observant. In darkness—or when his wolf stirred—the green brightened until it seemed to glow from within, narrowing into predatory slits for the briefest heartbeat before returning to human. People often made the mistake of believing he looked angry. He wasn’t. He simply carried the expression of someone who had spent a lifetime deciding whether another person was worth keeping alive. ⸻ His Tattoos Unlike decorative ink, every tattoo etched into Axtyn’s skin marked a chapter of his reign. A sprawling black wolf stretched across his back, its head resting between his shoulder blades, eyes lifted toward a crescent moon. Pack lore claimed the image shifted subtly beneath moonlight, as though the wolf still breathed. Ancient runes wrapped around both forearms in dark bands, each symbol representing an oath he had sworn: protect the innocent, honor the dead, never bow to tyranny. They resembled old claw marks from a distance, making them as intimidating as they were meaningful. A thorned vine coiled from his left collarbone over his shoulder and down his chest, intertwining with moon phases hidden among the leaves—a reminder that every king eventually answers to time. Across the left side of his ribs was the Vane family crest, worn only by the ruling bloodline. Running down the center of his spine was a single vertical line of ancient Lycan script. Few alive could read it. Translated, it meant: “Strength without mercy is nothing more than savagery.” ⸻ Piercings Axtyn wore surprisingly few. A matte black hoop rested in his left ear, accompanied by two polished silver studs climbing the upper cartilage. They were understated rather than ornamental, a subtle defiance of tradition. Around his neck hung a heavy silver chain bearing an old wolf’s fang, carved with protective runes. It had belonged to the first Lycan king and had been passed from ruler to ruler ever since. His hands were adorned with several dark silver rings, each engraved with intricate knotwork or lunar symbols. One ring, shaped like a wolf biting its own tail, never left his right hand. It served as the royal signet, carrying the authority of the crown. ⸻ Personality Axtyn was terrifying for a simple reason. He almost never raised his voice. Where others relied on intimidation through shouting or violence, Axtyn relied on silence. Every word he chose had purpose. Every glance carried calculation. He listened far more than he spoke, allowing people to reveal themselves while believing they held the upper hand. He possessed a strategist’s mind, often seeing five or six outcomes before anyone else recognized there was even a choice to make. Political games, manipulation, and deception rarely escaped his notice. He understood that the most dangerous weapon wasn’t a sword—it was information. He had an exceptional memory, recalling names, faces, promises, and betrayals years after they occurred. Those who underestimated him because of his quiet demeanor often discovered too late that he had already anticipated their every move. Despite his fearsome reputation, Axtyn valued loyalty above blind obedience. He rewarded honesty, competence, and courage regardless of rank. Servants who worked diligently earned his respect as readily as seasoned warriors. But betrayal was different. Axtyn never forgot it. He did not believe in dramatic revenge. He believed in complete justice. To the outside world, he was cold, unreadable, and nearly impossible to provoke. To those few he trusted, he was steadfast, fiercely protective, and unwavering in his devotion. Once someone became his—whether friend, soldier, or mate—he accepted responsibility for their safety without question. The discovery of his true mate did not soften him. It simply gave his relentless protectiveness a singular focus. ⸻ His Lycan Form When the beast finally answered his call, it wasn’t merely a larger wolf. It was something older. Something that reminded every creature why ancient stories spoke of Lycans with reverence and fear. At nearly twelve feet tall when standing on his hind legs, his Lycan form towered over ordinary wolves. Dense black fur shimmered with faint silver along the tips beneath moonlight, resembling living shadows edged in frost. His shoulders were impossibly broad, his forelimbs thick with corded muscle, ending in massive hands tipped with obsidian claws capable of rending steel. His digitigrade legs gave him explosive speed despite his immense size, allowing him to close impossible distances in a heartbeat. A mane of darker fur ran from the crown of his head down his spine, lifting instinctively whenever he perceived danger. His face retained unmistakably lupine features—a long muzzle lined with ivory fangs, ears that tracked the faintest sound, and eyes that burned the same emerald green as his human form, now blazing with an otherworldly intensity. His bite could crush enchanted armor. His howl carried for miles, commanding lesser wolves through instinct alone. Many wolves found themselves lowering their gaze or exposing their throats without understanding why. Even in this monstrous form, intelligence never left him. He did not surrender to instinct. He commanded it. His wolf and his man existed in perfect harmony, making him infinitely more dangerous than beasts driven only by rage. Among Lycans, an old saying was whispered whenever Axtyn entered a battlefield: “When the King walks as a man, armies prepare for war. When the King walks as a wolf, they prepare for extinction.”
