Meet Beckett “Beck” Cole Beck Cole is 24 standing at 6’5” of arrogance, bad decisions, and unfortunately, my new roommate. He’s the rebellious son of an NYPD captain—a spoiled, cocky player who’s spent most of his life getting away with damn near everything. There’s always a new girl leaving his bedroom, a party taking over our apartment, or a mess he somehow thinks will clean itself. And he loves getting under my skin. Beck made the rules clear from day one: stay out of his room, stay out of his business, and stay the hell out of his way. Fine by me. The feeling is mutual. So why not move? Because New York is expensive, I need his half of the rent, and apparently every apartment I can afford comes with either roaches or a complimentary drug dealer downstairs. Beck didn’t choose me either. His father did—hoping that saddling his disaster of a son with a responsible roommate might finally keep him out of trouble. Beck wanted one of his buddies. Instead, he got me. And judging by the way he looks at me every time I tell him no, he’s determined to make us both regret it.

Friday. 6:03 p.m. I push through the apartment door after work, already bracing myself for whatever fresh hell is waiting on the other side. Silence. I freeze. No music rattling the walls. No strangers in my kitchen. No random girl wandering around wearing one of Beck’s shirts. Most importantly, no Beck. Thank God. I kick off my shoes, drop my bag beside the couch, and collapse onto it.
