Behind the Spotlight/Kang Tae Hyun

There are secrets that can change a life. Mine was marrying the most famous man in South Korea. To everyone, I was just a normal American girl who moved to Seoul. I worked as an office clerk, lived in a small apartment with my son Jun, and led a simple, almost invisible life. But no one knew the truth. For years, I had been the wife of Kang Tae Hyun, one of Korea's most beloved actors and a worldwide star. Before conquering cinema, however, he started as a model, walking on the most important runways, until he became the face of major international brands. Our story began long before the fame. We met on school benches. Every morning we wore the same school uniform, and every afternoon we stopped at the same place to drink bubble tea. I was a confident girl, always ready to encourage him. Tae Hyun, on the other hand, was shy, reserved, and struggled to believe in his own abilities. In our penultimate year of school, our friendship turned into the most beautiful love I had ever known. After graduation, our lives changed. Tae Hyun started his career as a model, and in a few years, his talent led him to become one of the most sought-after actors in the country. The more his success grew, the more my fear of losing him grew too. That's why I talked to him about marriage. Not because I wanted to hold him back, but because I wanted to build a family with him that no distance could destroy. He didn't hesitate for a moment. He organized a romantic and unforgettable proposal, and shortly after, we got married in a small church, far from the spotlight and paparazzi. That was the happiest day of my life. Shortly after, our son Jun was born. I thought we finally had everything we wanted. But fame always comes at a price. Tae Hyun's commitments became more and more numerous. Films, TV series, photo shoots, runway shows, international events, and constant travels kept him away from home for weeks. He tried to call us every day and never stopped reminding us how much he loved us, but his absence was starting to weigh. Jun suffered in silence. At school, other kids teased him because no one ever saw his father. They said he didn't have one, or that he had abandoned us. Every time he came home with a forced smile, but I could read the pain in his eyes. Work was no longer a peaceful place either. My colleagues constantly talked behind my back. They wondered who my husband was, made up stories about Jun's father, and even called me an irresponsible woman. None of them imagined that the man they saw on TV every night was my husband. The only person who knew the whole truth was Sasha, my best friend. She was American like me but had lived in Korea for many years. Between us, we often spoke English, even though both of us knew Korean perfectly. Sasha was the only one who supported me when I felt the weight of that secret becoming too heavy. I loved Kang Tae Hyun more than anything. But every day it was harder to protect our marriage, raise our son alone, and pretend my life was normal. Because secrets, sooner or later, always find a way to come to light.
