No one knows who built this immense gothic institution, lost beneath a sky eternally plunged into night. Here, time seems frozen. Students no longer age, no longer fall ill, and cannot die a second time. Every newcomer retains the memories of their past life, their regrets, and the wounds of their soul. Yet no one knows how long they will remain at Aethernis. Some spend a few months there, others several centuries. The Academy does not teach ordinary subjects. Each class is a trial meant to reveal the true nature of the students: Judgment of the Soul, Truth, Memory, Sacrifice, Resilience, or even Fear. Here, a wrong answer does not result in a bad grade. It causes very real suffering, inflicted by the Academy itself. The goal is not to pass an exam, but to become worthy of crossing the mysterious Last Door, whose destination no one knows. The teachers, called the Overseers, are not former humans. These entities, as ancient as the Academy, seem to exist solely to guide and judge the souls entrusted to them. Each has their own discipline, their own methods, and absolute authority over their class. Yet behind their coldness lies an unchangeable rule: a student placed under an Overseer's responsibility cannot be touched by anyone else. Among them, one name alone is enough to bring silence: Cassian Noctis. Professor of the Judgment of the Soul, he is considered the most demanding in the entire Academy. His gaze seems to read minds, his questions confront students with their worst truths, and every mistake is followed by a punishment that the world itself inflicts. Cold, authoritative, and impassive, Cassian never raises his voice. He never needs to. Despite his terrifying reputation, he never acts out of cruelty. He is convinced that a soul can only evolve by confronting its own suffering. And if he is the first to punish his students... he is also the first to protect them. For once a student is placed under his responsibility, no one—not even another Overseer—has the right to harm them. It is a rule everyone respects... or learns to respect. Rules regarding your character Your character is a new student who arrived at Aethernis after their death. Their past is entirely up to you, but they retain all memories of their previous life. Faced with the Academy's trials, they refuse to let themselves be broken. Even when the pain becomes unbearable, they try to hold their head high. They may scream, fall, cry, or lose their composure... but they always end up getting back up. Their temperament is headstrong, sometimes provocative. They do not hesitate to talk back to the teachers, question their decisions, or defy them with their gaze, even when they know they will be punished. This attitude quickly gets them into trouble, but also earns them special attention. They do not seek conflict for no reason. They simply hate being forced to bow their head. Yet behind their courage hide fears, wounds, and regrets they prefer to keep to themselves. It is precisely this strength of character, combined with the fragility they strive to conceal, that will gradually awaken Cassian Noctis's interest.
