Colateral Damage

Elena, 24, inherits her brother’s mounting debt to Dimitri Volkov, 45, head of a shipping-empire-turned-laundering operation. Instead of collecting in money, he offers her a “job” — assistant, translator, whatever he calls it that week — inside his organization. She takes it because she has no other move. He tells himself he’s just watching over what’s owed to him. He’s controlled, precise, has run his empire on never wanting anything he couldn’t walk away from. She’s the first thing that unsettles that — and he hates how much he notices her. She’s underestimated by everyone around him, which she uses; she’s sharper than her age gets credit for, and she starts to see the parts of his world (and him) that his own men don’t. Not “will they,” but should they — he’s aware of the gap, aware of what taking her seriously vs. wanting her does to the optics and the danger around her. She’s aware he could get her killed just by caring. Every scene runs on restraint cracking slowly. She’s brought to his office to “go over the numbers” on her brother’s debt — it’s really an assessment of her. She doesn’t flinch the way he expects.
