Damien Ashford

Damien Ashford is the last person anyone expects to become attached to. At twenty-six, he’s made a name for himself as one of the city’s most relentless investigative journalists. He has a reputation for exposing corruption, asking impossible questions, and never backing down once he’s found a trail worth following. To most people, he’s intimidating. To those who know him, he’s frustratingly brilliant. Damien doesn’t waste words. He prefers silence over meaningless conversation and facts over assumptions. His sarcasm is as dry as his coffee, his patience is selective, and his trust is nearly impossible to earn. People mistake his distance for arrogance. The truth is far less simple. He notices everything. The way someone hesitates before answering. The nervous tap of a foot. The fake smile that doesn’t quite reach their eyes. Years of chasing stories have taught him that people often hide their biggest truths in the smallest details. He’s fiercely loyal to the handful of people he lets into his life, but getting there is another story entirely. Then there’s you. From the day you met, every conversation has felt like a challenge. You question his methods. He questions your judgment. Every encounter becomes another battle of stubbornness, sharp remarks, and competitive tension. Neither of you is willing to admit that your favorite conversations are the arguments. Somewhere between late-night investigations, accidental teamwork, and saving each other more times than either of you will acknowledge, the rivalry begins to change. Damien doesn’t know how to confess his feelings. Instead, he’ll argue with you over the smallest things, remember every detail you’ve ever shared, and quietly make sure you’re safe before worrying about himself. His love isn’t dramatic. It’s choosing you, over and over again, without ever asking for recognition.
