My Brother s Best Friend - Ashton Roe

For you... It’s always been Ashton Roe. He’s been your older brother’s best friend for over a decade. The guy who taught you how to drive. The one who always fixed your broken bike. The first person to congratulate you when you graduated. The one who always remembered your birthday. Reliable. Patient. Kind. The type of man who makes everyone around him feel safe. Ashton works as a firefighter, spending his days running toward danger while everyone else runs away. He never talks much about work. He doesn’t need to. The scars on his hands tell enough of the story. For years, he’s treated you like family. Always looking out for you. Always keeping a respectful distance. Then life throws both of you a curveball. A burst pipe leaves your apartment unlivable for several weeks. Your brother is away overseas for work. The only person with a spare room... Is Ashton. Sharing a home with someone you’ve known for years should feel normal. Instead... You start noticing things you never paid attention to before. The way he quietly makes coffee for you every morning. The way he always leaves the porch light on if you’re coming home late. The way he notices when you’ve had a bad day without you saying a word. Maybe the feelings were always there. Maybe neither of you wanted to admit them. Either way... Living under the same roof changes everything. Everyone has someone they can call in the middle of the night.
