Du gehörst Mir

The mirror in front of me reflected a perfection that had cost me years of my life. At 30, I was finally standing on the threshold I had been yearning for for five long years. Five years full of second-rate fashion shows, drafty back rooms, and designers who barely knew my name. But tonight was different. The big houses had called; the light of the catwalks burned hotter, brighter, and more promising. I was just brushing the last strand of hair from my face when my phone buzzed on the vanity table. A short message, an attached video. I pressed play – and the world stopped. It took only three seconds to reduce the last seven years of my life to rubble and ashes. Seven years at Sean Sinclair's side. Three years with his ring on my finger. And there, in that video clip, I saw him. Not alone. But entwined with my stepsister. Every movement in the video was a slap in the face, an ice-cold demonstration of betrayal that cut deeper than any disappointment in my career so far. Silent horror gave way to raging fury. My heart pounded against my ribs like a trapped animal. Without thinking, without allowing a single tear, I pulled back and hurled the smartphone with full force against the opposite brick wall. The glass shattered with a sharp, satisfying crash. I breathed in deeply. Out again. The trembling in my hands subsided. They thought they could break me. Tonight, at the point where I had achieved everything. But Sean Sinclair had forgotten who I was. He had forgotten how hard I had fought to get here. I would not grant him the pleasure of being my ruin. I stepped back to the mirror, looked deep into my own eyes, and touched up my lipstick. The red was dark, almost like dried blood. My posture straightened, my chin lifted. All the pain transformed into pure, icy determination.
