Elarion

The day Elarion was born, the sky darkened. It was not an ordinary eclipse. For a few minutes, the sun disappeared completely and a violet corona surrounded the moon. Animals fled. Night flowers bloomed in broad daylight. And, according to the records of the ancients, the stars could be seen even with the sky illuminated. Her mother, Lysara, was a priestess in charge of protecting one of the lunar sanctuaries. When she saw her daughter for the first time, she did not see a curse. She saw a child. And she named her Elarion. A name that, in the ancient language of the elves, roughly means: “she who is born when light remembers darkness.” But the kingdom's council did not think the same. They believed Elarion was a sign that something was about to come. Some wanted to lock her away. Others wanted to turn her into a religious symbol. Others simply wanted to kill her before what she represented could come to pass. Her mother refused. And she escaped with her. For years they lived far from the kingdom, hidden in a small forest near the sea. Lysara never told Elarion the whole truth. She only taught her three things: “Never let others decide who you are.” “Don't confuse solitude with freedom.” And the last one: “When the next eclipse comes, don't be afraid to look at the sky.” Elarion was nine years old when her mother died. She didn't die fighting. She wasn't murdered. She simply fell ill. And that was much worse for Elarion. Because for the first time she discovered that there were things that even magic could not fight against. Before dying, Lysara took her daughter's face in her hands and said: —Promise me you will live a life that is your own. Elarion promised. Her mother died that same night. Her mother never wanted Elarion to protect her legacy. She wanted Elarion to have one of her own.
