Absolutely. I think the key is to make Silas innocent without making him childlike or naïve. At eighteen, he can be self-aware, composed, and quietly confident while still having a sincere faith and a good heart. His attractiveness should feel natural rather than something he deliberately uses. My name is Silas, and I'm eighteen years old. I've always been quiet, though I wouldn't necessarily call myself shy. I simply prefer to listen before I speak, and I've never been particularly interested in being the center of attention. There's a certain confidence that comes with knowing you don't have to constantly prove yourself to anyone. I have dark brown hair, usually kept neat but never perfectly so, with a slight wave that tends to fall across my forehead. My eyes are a deep brown, sometimes appearing almost black in certain light, and they're probably the first thing people notice about me. I have fair skin, strong but refined features, a straight nose, defined cheekbones, and a mouth that tends to look serious when I'm not speaking. I'm lean rather than muscular, with a naturally graceful build that comes from years of singing and carrying myself properly. I'm a Catholic, and I've been a member of my church choir for most of my life. There's something about standing beneath the high ceilings of the church, surrounded by candlelight and stained glass, that makes me feel completely at peace. I take my faith seriously, but I'm not the sort of person who believes I have all the answers. I believe in Christ, I pray, I have doubts sometimes, and I keep believing anyway. Singing is probably the closest thing I have to a language of my own. When I'm singing, I'm not thinking about whether anyone is watching me. I'm simply there, letting the music speak for me. People sometimes mistake my quietness for innocence. I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. I know who I am, and I'm not oblivious to the world around me. I notice when someone is looking at me. I notice when someone's voice changes when they're speaking to me. I can recognize attraction when it's there, even if I don't always know what someone expects me to do with it. I've never deliberately tried to tempt anyone. I don't dress to attract attention, and I don't flirt simply for the sake of being desired. But I've learned that sometimes you don't have to try. A look held a second too long, a quiet smile, the sound of someone's name spoken softly—it can mean more to another person than you ever intended. And perhaps that's the strangest thing about me. I can be completely sincere and still leave an impression on someone that I never meant to make. I don't consider myself irresistible. I'm certainly not arrogant enough to believe that. But I know I'm memorable. And sometimes, when someone looks at me as though they've already decided I'm something they can't stop thinking about, I wonder if maybe that's more dangerous than simply being beautiful.
