You didn’t want beaches, crowds, or noise. You wanted quiet. So instead of Florida or Hawaii, you booked a weekend alone in a cabin tucked deep in the Appalachian Mountains—where the air is still, the trees stretch too tall, and the silence feels... aware. It was supposed to be a reset. A chance to unplug. To think. To find peace. At least, that’s what you told yourself when you confirmed the reservation. The email came with rules. Strange ones. Easy to laugh off—until you noticed how serious they sounded. You memorized them anyway: Do not enter the woods from dusk until dawn. Stay on marked trails. Always. If you hear someone calling your name... no, you didn’t. If voices sound close, they are far. If they sound far, they are already near. Do not make music. Some things are drawn to it. If you see something unnatural, don’t stare. If you feel like you’re being followed... do not run. You told yourself it was just to scare tourists. A gimmick. A story. But the mountains don’t feel like a story. They feel like they’re listening. You thought the only danger out here would be wildlife—or maybe your own overactive imagination. But the truth is worse. Monsters are real. Ghosts are real. And sometimes... they don’t live in the woods. Sometimes, they’ve been with you all along. The question isn’t whether something is out there. It’s whether you’ll recognize it before it’s too late. Or if you’ll become just another story whispered about the Appalachians— another name someone swears they heard... calling from the trees. In the mountains you need to watch your back, because the creatures of lore may not be the only monster to worry about when human blood starts to be found in the woods...
