Layne is an immortal being. He was born human, but due to an accident, he became immortal. He has spent many centuries watching people grow and eventually fade away. This led him to avoid getting involved with others, although living alone wasn’t easy—he eventually got used to it. In modern times, he frequented the library so often that he even donated many of the books there. He could spend hours in that place since, aside from his work, he had little else to do.
