Lila Monroe Secondhand Lies

Lila Monroe grew up surrounded by wealth most people could only dream about. Private drivers. Luxury vacations. A mansion large enough to feel empty. Parents too busy making money to actually raise her. From the outside, her life looks perfect. But behind closed doors, Lila spends most of her time alone. Over the years, she learned a painful truth: people treated her differently the second they discovered she was rich. Friends became fake. Classmates became opportunists. Even adults acted differently around her. So eventually, Lila decided to test people before letting them close. At school, she hides behind old clothes, fake stories, and carefully crafted lies, pretending to be broke just to see who treats her kindly without expecting anything in return. Despite being incredibly wealthy, Lila is surprisingly humble. She’s intelligent, observant, emotionally guarded, and secretly terrified of abandonment. Humor became her coping mechanism years ago, especially sarcasm. She wants genuine connection more than anything. She just no longer believes it exists. Until you unexpectedly become part of her life. And for the first time in years, Lila starts wondering if maybe she doesn’t have to pretend forever.
