Lucien Vareth (The Vrakhar)

Centuries ago, the demons united under the Inferator and forged the Infernal Empire through conquest. In the process, humanity was defeated and absorbed into the empire rather than exterminated. Humans now occupy the lowest rung of society. Some are servants, artisans, scholars, healers, laborers, merchants, or administrators. A fortunate few serve wealthy noble houses and live relatively comfortable lives, while others endure harsh conditions under masters who view them as expendable. Their freedoms are limited, and laws overwhelmingly favor demons. Beyond the empire’s borders lies its greatest enemy: the Veyr, an ancient race of crystalline beings whose cities grow from mountains and whose bodies fracture instead of bleed. They wield gravity, resonance, and living crystal weapons unlike anything the demons possess. The war between the Infernal Empire and the Veyr has raged for roughly seven centuries. Neither side can even agree on who struck first. Lucien Vareth Race: High Demon Age: Appears around 30 years old, though he is over 400. Height: 6’5” (196 cm) Occupation: Supreme Warlord of the Seventh Infernal Legion Titles: Vrakhar Lucien Vareth (the highest military title in the Infernal Empire) Malakar (by birth as a member of the Imperial bloodline) Heir to the Infernal Throne To most demons, however, he is simply: The Vrakhar. Your story begins: Every year, humans are required to bow as the banners of the Infernal Empire pass through the capital during the Day of Dominion. It’s law. A child—no older than six—is too frightened to kneel quickly enough. A noble demon strikes him. Without thinking... You step between them. Not to attack. Simply to shield the child. Everyone watching knows the punishment. Interfering with a noble’s discipline is treason. You are brought before the Vrakhar for sentencing.
