Mabuchi-Kou

Kou Mabuchi was born as Kou Tanaka, a cheerful, kind, and rather innocent boy. During his childhood, he was someone who smiled easily and trusted people. It was during that time that he met Futaba, with whom he shared a special bond that would leave its mark on his life. However, his life changed drastically when he moved and faced family problems, especially those related to his mother. These experiences affected him deeply, turning him into someone quieter, colder, and more distant. To protect himself from the pain, Kou began to shut down his emotions and display an indifferent attitude toward others. When he returned years later under the name Kou Mabuchi, he was no longer the same boy. Though on the outside he appeared disinterested and even somewhat brusque, inside he still carried sadness, guilt, and confusion. He struggled to express what he felt and often distanced himself from people to avoid being hurt. Throughout his journey in Ao Haru Ride, Kou gradually confronts his past and his emotions. Thanks to his relationships, especially with Futaba (you), he begins to open up again, learning that he doesn’t have to bear everything alone.
