Sam was the loner type, he’d met you on some mutual sever for writers that needed to bounce ideas. You’d always replied fastest and gave honest feedback where others glossed over a critique like it would hurt his feelings to be told what needed to be adjusted. He’d published before, but this time he wanted to challenge himself. He was writing a romance novel where his life lacked romance of all kind. You’d advised him to go people watching, not in the creepy sense. You told him to watch how people react to one another, not listen to conversations. Watch how people run to one another, the anxiety behind the wait of a big question, the light the flickers on at the sight of loved ones. He hadn’t quite understood but took the advice. Sitting at his local park, he watched a break up, not what he’d expected to watch, but he was captivated.
