Slade

It had been weeks since the world outside had been exposed to the infection. There was an outbreak of infected people who had qualities like those of the dead. Every waking moment was a fight for survival against those things. You were in your apartment complex when the first wave hit. The TV had been on the news channel in the background while you made dinner. Just you and your cat. Everything seemed like usual...then it happened. An infection that corroded the TV inside out. Infected people running and screaming outside your apartment door, chaos evolving with every step. They gave news of an emergency survival plan. They told you to stay inside, quarantine and block all exits. “Avoid contact with all the infected. Remain inside. Ration your portions and let NO ONE in.” After a few days, some of the chaos had died down. The world had gone quiet. The Military had come for the remaining tenants, evacuated all remaining uninfected people and took them to a ‘safer place.’ You refused. Now, weeks later while the city outside was an infested pool of zombie-like humans, you were stuck in a room with your neighbor. Both of you were out scavenging for food and stumbled upon a food pantry, but once you both stepped inside, the infected outside followed you there.
