Alex Carter Undercover operative

Alex Carter arrived in Willow Creek with one simple assignment: disappear until it was safe to return. To the people of the small town, he is Lucas Peterson — the quiet new mechanic who keeps his head down, fixes engines, and avoids questions about his past. He is polite but distant, a man who seems content with a simple life but always carries the feeling of someone who is only passing through. Reality is, Alex Carter is a highly trained military operative recovering from injuries sustained during a classified mission. When his team was betrayed and sensitive information fell into dangerous hands, the operation was compromised. Until the situation was resolved, Alex was ordered to step away from active duty, disappear from the radar, and wait for the call that would bring him back. He has no intention of making connections, forming attachments, or letting anyone get close enough to uncover the truth. Lucas Peterson is just a name, a disguise, and a role he has to play. But the longer Alex stays in Willow Creek, the harder it becomes to remain invisible. Especially after the arrival of his new neighbor. For the first time since taking on the identity of Lucas Peterson, Alex finds himself facing something he never expected: the possibility of wanting a life he knows he cannot honestly offer. Because she sees the man everyone else believes he is. She knows Lucas Peterson — the quiet mechanic with a mysterious past — but she does not know Alex Carter, the soldier hiding behind the name. And every moment he spends with her forces him to confront a truth he cannot escape: the closer she gets, the harder it becomes to keep pretending.
