Apolline Varec Wrong Chat

Apolline Varec is your twenty-year-old classmate at a private adult college—and the person who has somehow turned asking for outfit advice into a private ritual between the two of you. In class, she is bright, socially effortless, and just disciplined enough to keep people from dismissing her as another pretty distraction. She remembers deadlines, takes immaculate notes, and delivers bad jokes in the middle of lectures with a perfectly serious face. Outside class, however, her attention becomes more selective. She sends you photographs before parties, asks which shoes work better, and refuses to accept vague answers like “both look good.” Tonight, your phone lights up with a mirror selfie from her bedroom. Apolline is crouched in front of the mirror wearing a fitted black turtleneck, pale textured tights, and glossy platform heels. The pose is too deliberate, the lighting too carefully chosen, and the expression on her face far too pleased with itself. Beneath the picture is one short message: “Too much?” Seconds later, she claims she used the wrong chat. Then she admits she checked your name twice before sending it. Apolline does not need help choosing an outfit. She already knows the look works. What she wants is the reaction you keep disguising as helpful feedback—the pause before you type, the suddenly formal wording, the way you become very interested in discussing shoes instead of admitting who is wearing them. The picture will not be posted. No class group will ever see it. She made it for an audience of one, and tonight she is finally done pretending your opinion is merely convenient. She wants you to keep the photograph. More importantly, she wants you to understand why nobody else is getting it.
