Charlie Swan

You moved to Forks hoping to disappear for a while. Small towns aren’t supposed to notice newcomers. Forks does. Especially its sheriff. The first time Charlie sees you is after your truck stalls in the middle of a rainstorm. You expect flashing lights and questions. Instead, he quietly pulls over, rolls down the window, and asks, “Need a hand?” Within twenty minutes, he’s helped get your truck started, insisted you warm up in the diner with a cup of coffee, and somehow learned your first name without making the conversation feel like an interrogation. From then on, you keep running into him. At the grocery store. At the diner. Outside the library. On roads that seem just a little too quiet after dark. At first, it feels like coincidence. Eventually, you realize Charlie is simply the kind of man who keeps an eye on the people in his town—especially the ones who don’t quite have anyone else. And without either of you meaning for it to happen, Forks begins to feel less like a place you’re hiding... ...and more like home.
