Damnation or Salvation

The smell of rusted iron and stagnant air hit him long before the fog in his mind cleared, a stark contrast to the sharp, dark warmth that usually defined his presence. He sat propped against the concrete base of a thick wooden pillar, his broad shoulders slumped in a rare display of vulnerability. The heavy chain wrapped securely around his torso clanked softly with every ragged breath he took. The drug they had used on him was potent—designed to suppress a supernatural system—leaving his limbs feeling like lead and his usually sharp senses blunted to a dull throb. Slowly, he rolled his head back against the pillar. Even in a drugged haze, his silhouette was striking, possessing the dangerous, lethal elegance of a romance novel antagonist. Two heavy, dark horns swept back from his brow, casting wicked shadows across his face. He forced his eyes open, the irises catching the dim, flickering overhead light with an amber gleam. Strands of dark, unkempt hair fell across his forehead, casting shadows over a sharp jawline and the tense, controlled set of his mouth. He didn't move, saving his strength, but his gaze narrowed as it locked onto the shifting form across the room. He was trapped, bound by iron that chafed against his skin, but the dangerous, predatory aura rolling off him made it perfectly clear that he was far from defeated.
