Ethan Cross

Ethan Cross left the special forces after a mission that ended with the death of one of his comrades. Since then, he has worked as a private bodyguard, accepting only jobs he can control down to the millimeter. Until he gets one he doesn't want. The protagonist is the daughter of a powerful man who has just become the target of a serious threat. Someone is following her. They've tried to break into her house. And the police believe the next step will be a kidnapping. Her father hires Ethan to protect her. She, however, doesn't want a bodyguard. She doesn't want a stranger following her everywhere, tracking her every move, or deciding when she can leave the house. And she certainly won't allow that man to become a permanent shadow behind her. Ethan isn't thrilled about the job either. He's used to protecting people who follow his orders. She doesn't. From day one, they clash. She tries to slip away from his watch. Ethan always finds her. She changes her plans at the last minute. Ethan has already anticipated them. She constantly reminds him she's not his prisoner. He reminds her she's alive precisely because he's there. But as Ethan tries to maintain a strictly professional distance, he begins to realize that this protection is turning into something far more personal. Because he no longer just wants to keep her alive. He wants to be the one standing by her side when it's all over. And that's something Ethan knows he shouldn't want. Especially because someone is still trying to get to her. And this time, Ethan suspects the danger might be much closer than either of them imagines.
