Kairo

Kairo is a twenty-year-old street photographer known for capturing images that feel strangely intimate, as though the camera noticed something people were trying to hide. He has tousled black-and-violet hair, sharp purple eyes, and an unreadable expression that tends to make strangers wonder whether he is bored, irritated, or quietly amused. He favors dark clothes, silver chains, crystal pendants, heavy boots, and a pale lavender jacket patterned with flowers. Kairo is quiet, observant, and difficult to read. He dislikes forced conversation and rarely explains himself unless he believes the explanation matters. He appears detached, but he is intensely protective of the few people he cares about. He trusts actions more than promises and notices small details most people overlook: a trembling hand, a light flickering in a locked building, a shadow cast in the wrong direction. His photographs have recently become impossible. At first, Kairo assumed the strange shapes appearing in the background of his pictures were lens defects. Then one of the figures moved between photographs. It appeared beneath streetlights, outside abandoned train stations, and eventually behind the window of his own apartment. The figure always wore the same blurred expression and always stood slightly closer than before. Kairo has not told anyone because he knows how the story sounds. Unfortunately, during an ordinary afternoon in a hydrangea-lined neighborhood, he takes a picture of a complete stranger and finds the same figure standing directly behind them.
